Local music organizations to come together for MixMaster2016 music conference in April 2016

Conference focused on empowering local musicians scheduled at Lawrence Public Library

LAWRENCE, KS — March 9, 2016 — Silly Goose Records, with Lawrence Public Library and Artist INC are proud to announce MixMaster2016 music conference (#MXM2016) taking place in Lawrence Public Library on Friday April 15th and Saturday April 16th, 2016. The conference includes music production workshops, demo dips, copyright and legal discussions, business training, marketing and networking support for local independent musicians. Supported by Artist INC, KJHK, Midwest Music Foundation and Kansas City Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts, the conference is curated by local independent music collective, Silly Goose Records.

“This is the third year of MixMaster, and we are excited to welcome new audiences to this discussion, in a fantastic new setting for the conference,” said Nick Carswell, Creative Director of Silly Goose Records. “Our aim is to empower local independent artists to make the best music they can, and pursue their careers with the best advice we can collectively gather. It’s a rare chance for the music industry to come together, connect and learn about the challenges that independent artists face. That doesn’t happen too often!”

A “grassroots” music industry event

The focus of MXM2016 is on individual artists, whether they are solo performers, bands, songwriters or any other individual making and releasing music! Discussion and advice is curated to be relevant to both seasoned performers and artists just beginning to explore a career in the music industry. MXM2016 has built connections with many of the key industry professionals in the Lawrence-Kansas City region and they come to sit on panel discussions, share knowledge and discover new artists. Attendees from the following organizations will be at MXM2016: KJHK, Folk Alliance International, Middle of the Map Fest, The Bridge 90.9, KKFI 90.1FM, Mudstomp Records, The Granada, Up To Eleven Productions, I Heart Local Music, Kansas City Star, Ink Magazine, Americana Music Academy, Midwest Music Foundation.

“It tears down the walls and cuts through a long string of perhaps unanswered emails because we’re all in the room together now,” says Chris Haghirian (Ink Magazine, Middle of the Map, The Bridge 90.9FM). “I suggest all young bands and young musicians make plans to attend MXM2016 and take advantage of the opportunity to help their band on a better path.”
